HEB’s store brands are generally better than Kroger’s store brands and tend to be a bit cheaper. I’ve found meat to be a little better at Kroger, though, even though they don’t seem to package it at the store like HEB seems to, and it tends to be a little more expensive. HEB’s in-store bakery is better, in my opinion.
HEB - great value, bang for your buck stuff, also sells generic daily needs. Central Market - Premium quality, wide range of natural medicines can only be found in this store and couple of other stores in DFW.
HEB sells a simple plastic pump in the water aisle for $5. Bring the jugs with you when you go to the grocery store. Figure out how many you need to last you through whatever interval you go to the store at.

Insight into quality difference between HCF and HEB Select/Natural? I always wonder whether there’s a true quality shift between these brands, and if so, does anyone know why/what the difference is? I’m specifically curious about meat (hill country fare vs HEB natural) and dairy, but would appreciate any product insight y’all have.
HEB went from predominantly choice grade beef to lower quality, select grade beef at the beginning of the pandemic. They haven't really gone back. Likely because many consumers would note a price increase without being aware of the grade change.
HEB culture says stock controllers grumble about the new guy amongst themselves but share very little with you. As for learning the store, you'll have to learn how things are grouped (marinara with pasta, beans with canned veggies and canned fruit, etc) then slowly learn what aisle that grouping is on.
Thanks for the answer on HEB. I appreciate somebody posting that it work for them at HEB. My research into Walmart indicates, any Walmart supercenter will not work. But Walmart neighborhood stores in Walmart Express will work, because they primarily sell groceries and pharmacy items. Whereas the supercenter sells white plethora of non-food ...
A little bit to add to that, when HEB makes a store brand product that they can’t make in one of their own facilities they will not use any formula that they haven’t created themselves. Most manufacturers want to use their proprietary formula for store brands so they can sell the rights for them to use it, but HEB does the opposite and finds manufacturers willing to use the HEB formula ...
