Hi, I'm planning on going solo to VN in September and have gone back and forth on whether to go to Can Gio Monkey Island because of reviews that say the animals are mistreated or perhaps just not treated with respect. Curious if you could give me your opinion on whether you feel going here would be a sad rather than enjoyable feeling. I loved Costa Rica for its diversity and love of animals, and would like to some animal life in VN.

The monkeys roam free and I saw no positive or negative treatment - careful if you buy an icecream though. The crocodiles were in large pens with lots of mud and mangroves, but the tide was out so the pools were small. They fed them fish so that the crocs lept out of the water to get food for the tourists. I thought the mangrove forest itself was the most interesting, an extensive twisted forest. Lunch at Can Thanh and a walk along the 'beach'
