A nice little park to walk around to get a view of what life might have been like years ago during volcanic eruptions. However, it doesn't take long to see unless you venture down to the shoreline. … Full review by bubba3122

This was a beautiful historic site. The view of the ocean is beautiful from this location. It is an easy walk. There was a staff member carving a new ceremonial drum. He was a delight to talk to! Full review by Quest41974121789

Short hike to the shore where you can observe sea turtles. Lots of changing land scape on the hike. Recommend not wearing sandals as part of the walk is over loose lava rocks. Get the junior ranger… Full review by Tracy K

Did you walk from the Kailua-Kona cruise port? Do you know if there are any taxi's that will take you there (my 84 year old mother will be with us). Thanks for you help! Annette
A:
I would Definitely consider the car rental will pick you up at the port and you can drop it off at the port running about $100 for the day to go wherever you want.
Q:
Is there snorkeling at this beach? There's a lot of turtles and it would be a waste not to get in the water. Thanks
A:
I don't think so, on the inside of the wall. Further up the beach you can. There are still turtles a short walk away, past the lean-to shelter.
Q:
is there a bus route that will take us to this park? we will be arriving by cruise ship
A:
There is public transportation, but not to this specific site. If you are coming in at Kona, I recommend that you rent a car to see this National Park.

The route from the Park Display and Historical Site is about a 4 mile walk using a very hot paved sidewalk. Do not go through that route. There is a very short route via the marina. Enter the marina and go to the right part of the marina, first right turn. Proceed around the bend to the west end of a very large parking lot. There, you will find a gate into the park. Park your car and proceed through the gate. Go left, west towards the ocean and follow that paved path. You will walk about 1/2 mile onto the beach. Enjoy the turtles, they are amazing.

We will have a t 3 yr old and a 1 yr old and a 9 yr old and three grandmothers!!! I think we would be able to do this park if it is not too difficult to get around in. We will be living in a home over by Beach 69 in Kona area while the children's parents are taking their vacation. How far would this be for us to travel? Could we do this in a day trip?
A:
We didn't drive. We took a tour & the tour guide took us. It was quite hot & a bit uncomfortable for us seniors. Take plenty of water to drink. You should be able to do it in one day trip. …
