Florence Girard's caregiver told the coroner's inquest she had to reduce the frequency of pain medication and switch to a cheaper, less potent painkiller partially because Kinsight Community Society didn't pay for the prescribed medicine.

A former co-ordinator at the organization that oversaw Florence Girard’s home care before she starved to death in October 2018 says “hindsight is 20/20” looking back at a missed opportunity to avert the tragedy.

Astrid Dahl was supposed to be caring for Florence Girard when the 54-year-old woman died of malnourishment and starvation in October 2018, weighing only 50.6 pounds.

Krista Maniezzo, who was the Kinsight Community Society shared-living co-ordinator, told a coroner's inquest into Girard's death that while there was "nothing outrageous," caretaker Astrid Dahl was also increasingly resistant to new care requirements introduced a few years before the woman died.

Astrid Dahl also criticized the homecare organization she worked for when Girard, who had Down syndrome, starved to death in her care in 2018, telling a coroner’s inquest that Kinsight Community Society put “paperwork before people” and provided little support for things such as prescribed pain medication or health expertise.
