CHAVES COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — On Saturday, intense flooding hit Chaves County, and at least one person was reported dead. The National Guard reported multiple hospitalizations and hundreds of rescues. Several viewers sent in photos and videos of the flooded roads and neighborhoods. See them below:

The New Mexico National Guard is continuing search and rescue operations after record rainfall resulted in severe flooding in and around the city of Roswell and Chaves County.

During the flood emergency, the Chaves County Sheriff was swept away in his police unit and had to evacuate onto the roof of the vehicle. In a video posted to social media, the sheriff showed several vehicles stranded in water and the water up to the windows on his truck.
