Hospital authorities in southern Poland say a coal miner who suffered burns from a colliery methane gas fire has died

One miner died and rescuers were trying to reach two others trapped after water and mud poured into underground tunnels at the Velenje coal mine in northeastern Slovenia, mine officials said on Tuesday.

Workers are being evacuated from a mine in southern Poland after methane ignited, operator JSW said on Wednesday. "An operation to evacuate workers from the area is underway," JSW said in a statement regarding events at the Knurow-Szczyglowice Ruch Szczyglowice coal mine.
