The Botswana government has signed a new diamond sales agreement crucial to its economy with the De Beers mining company after seven years of negotiations.

Under the deal terms, Botswana will increase the share of rough stones it gets from its Debswana joint venture with De Beers to 50% over the next decade from the current 25%, and Debswana's mining licence will be extended for 25 years until 2054.
