Kevin Costner, former star of Yellowstone, has shared his straightforward reaction to the final installment of the hit show. The actor left the series midway through season 5 to focus on his films Horizon: An American Saga.

In a video shared by Daily Mail, Kevin Costner appeared to be out and about enjoying the Christmastime weather in Aspen, Colorado, where he owns a massive ranch. The actor was apparently asked about his take on Yellowstone ’s conclusion, which sparked exactly the kind of response that fans should expect at this point. In his words:

Costner’s remarks come on the heels of Grimes revealing that the pair haven’t spoken since Costner’s abrupt exit from the show midway through production on the fifth and final season of “Yellowstone,” spurring the rumors of a rift.

Yellowstone subsequently ended later that year with Costner’s character getting killed off. Costner has yet to see how John’s story wrapped up but the finale paved the way for his former costars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly to continue to tell stories in the Yellowstone universe.

So it sounds like Taylor Sheridan did indeed have the basic throughline for one of Yellowstone ’s biggest plotlines already mapped out in the earliest days, even if the myriad details involved hadn’t all been meticulously crafted.
