Edmonton Oilers defenceman Mattias Ekholm is a game-time decision Wednesday night, head coach Kris Knoblauch said. Ekholm wasn’t out for the morning skate with the rest of the team, as Brett Kulak slid into his spot flanking Evan Bouchard.

Days before the 2023 NHL trade deadline, the Edmonton Oilers completed a trade with the Nashville Predators for defenseman Mattias Ekholm. It turns out the Oilers were close to a trade for then-Arizona Coyotes blueliner Jakob Chychrun instead as they had that move lined up before ultimately completing the Ekholm deal.
