BHUBANESWAR: The first tropical storm of the post-monsoon season is expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal by 23 October, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday. An upper air cyclonic circulation over the central Andaman Sea had moved to the northern Andaman Sea on Sunday.

IMD warns of cyclonic storm forming over Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall expected in Odisha, fishermen advised to return.

A cyclonic storm is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on October 23, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Sunday.

A potential cyclonic storm is expected to hit the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal by October 24, prompting heavy rainfall and strong winds. Alerts have been issued and fishermen warned against venturing into the sea.

The weather system is expected to move west-northwestwards direction, and intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23 over east-central Bay of Bengal, IMD said.

Cyclone Dana is forming over the Bay of Bengal, bringing heavy rainfall and gusty winds to the Bengal-Odisha coast on October 23 and 24. Preparations and warnings issued as the storm may intensify into a severe cyclonic storm.
