Oklahoma state schools Superintendent Ryan Walters is suing the secretary of Homeland Security and the U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement deputy director for $474 million in an attempt to "recoup illegal immigration impacts on Oklahoma schools.

Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters is suing the federal government. He says he wants them to reimburse Oklahoma for the cost of educating immigrant children. Walters claims that Oklahoma is owed approximately $474 million.

According to a release from the Oklahoma State Department of Education, the lawsuit seeks compensation for the “severe financial and operational strain that their failed border policies have placed on Oklahoma’s public schools.
