Nine states from Washington to California to Colorado are on alert for wind, snow, avalanches and high surf as new storms target the west.

An atmospheric river will bring downpours, heavy mountain snow and strong winds to the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West through the weekend.

A series of atmospheric river-fueled storms are pounding the West with powerful winds, drenching rain, heavy mountain snow and churning up massive waves and dangerous seas just off the coast.

The parade of storms will continue to impact the West through the weekend. Rain and higher elevation snow will pile up, with concerns for flooding, mudslides, strong winds and high surf remaining.
