Michigan State handily defeated Kentucky 83-66 in the Champions Classic, in a battle of two teams that built their rosters in very different ways. While Kentucky was a team filled with transfers, MSU was a team filled with what Tom Izzo called “homegrown” talent.
Following the last tune up practice, Tom Izzo spoke to the media about the team's Champions Classic matchup against the "loaded" Kentucky Wildcats.
Taylor, 7-foot-1 and 244 pounds, is the No. 2 center and No. 23 player overall in the class. He picked the Spartans over his other finalists, Oregon, Kansas, Indiana and Oklahoma, while calling it “a pretty easy choice” due to Izzo and the fan base.
Tom Izzo has been coaching for 31 years, starting his Michigan State career back in 1995-96 with 1042 games under his belt and 740 wins — one of the best to ever do it, sitting comfortably with a .710 win rate and eight Final Fours with a national championship in 1999-00.
