SEATTLE — Luis Robert Jr. hit the 100th home run of his career and Colson Montgomery continued his early career heater with another solo blast, but the offense came too late in the White Sox ’ 8-3 series-opening loss Tuesday to the high-powered Mariners.

It came after the big blows had been dealt, most landing against the White Sox. It didn’t swing the game -- an 8-3 loss to the Mariners -- and it didn’t negate the tough moments that had come earlier.

Eugenio Suárez homered and Bryan Woo pitched seven sparkling innings, helping the Seattle Mariners beat the Chicago White Sox 8-3 on Tuesday night.Suárez hit a tiebreaking two-run shot in the fourth inning for his 37th homer of the season.
