After abandoning plans to field a Global Hawk-derived signals intelligence platform, Germany will introduce the bizjet-based PEGASUS.

The air force wants to replace the AWACS with space satellites, in addition to the U.S. Navy’s carrier based E-2D AWACS. U.S. War Department officials consider any type of aircraft-based AWACS as too vulnerable in modern warfare.

Germany produced three outstanding modern airliners in the interwar period: the Junkers Ju 52, Junkers Ju 86 and Focke-Wulf Fw 200. The Ju 52 was boxy, corrugated and lacked elegance. The Ju 86 (at least in airliner, and not militarily variants) was rather lovely, but most sublime aesthetically, was likely the Fw 200.
