The Havana History & Heritage Society will host its 2nd annual Cigar Day celebration on April 2 at the Shade Tobacco Museum.

As for cigar box labels, the Museum of Florida History has more than 1,500 examples in its assortment, and they are a sight to behold.

More than a century ago, cigar factories were filled with hundreds of immigrant cigar rollers, the strong smell of tobacco, and the sound of knowledge.

Of course, cigars are little more than conveying instruments for tobacco, the history of which goes all the way back to the Mayan days, some 5,000 years ago.

Saturday's Havana Cigar Days will have a special exhibit that highlights everyday-life in the Havana area during the shade tobacco era.

Thankfully they accepted, for the cigar business was changing. Previously, cigar makers kept their product fresh in humidors (small glass-fronted wooden boxes with a heating element on the bottom).

As for cigar box labels, the Museum of Florida History has more than 1,500 examples in its assortment, and they are a sight to behold.
