The U.S. has paused negotiations with Canada on a keystone management plan that governs flood control, water supply and hydropower in the shared Columbia River Basin.

Canada and the U.S. have been engaged in formal talks for the last seven years to update the decades-old water sharing agreement, originally created to mitigate downstream flood concerns in the Pacific Northwest and to generate hydroelectric power along the river system.

Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, and Minister responsible for the Columbia River Treaty, will host a virtual information session to provide an update about the status of the Columbia River Treaty modernization process and answer questions in light of new developments from the U.

The agreement, currently under renegotiation, co-ordinates hydroelectric power production and flood control along the Columbia River flowing from B.C. through the U.S. Pacific Northwest
