Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines will now operate under one FAA certificate, officially moving forward in their merger process.
Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines will begin the process of operating under a single call sign by Oct. 26, 2025. Hawaiian has flown under the code “HA” since 1929 and it will be officially retired in April 2026.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaiian Airlines made its final flight using its own callsign on Wednesday. Hawaiian flights are designated by the callsign of HA, followed by the flight number, which pilots use to communicate with air traffic control.
Alaska Airlines warned more flight disruptions were possible Oct. 24 following an IT outage that led to hundreds of flight cancellations.
Hawaiian Airlines is closing a defining chapter in its 96-year history today as it retires its “HA” callsign and flight designator, which have long been recognized by pilots, controllers and travelers worldwide.
The airline said in a statement that it had experienced "an IT outage affecting operations" and issued a temporary ground stop, which has now been lifted.
Alaska Airlines said late today that it was restoring its operations after a technology outage earlier in the evening had grounded its flights at all airports. Hawaiian Airlines, an Alaska Air Group subsidiary, said its operations were not affected by the hours-long ground stop.
