No. 6 Ole Miss beats Mississippi State in Battle for the Golden Egg; Kiffin decision up next
Trinidad Chambliss threw for 359 yards and four touchdowns, and No. 6 Mississippi beat Mississippi State 38-19 in the Battle for the Golden Egg.
Via Mark Schlabach of ESPN.com, current Ole Miss quarterbacks coach Joe Judge would be the “likely” interim coach for the upcoming postseason run, if Lane Kiffin leaves. Judge, 43, spent eight years in New England with Belichick before getting the Giants’ head-coaching job in 2020. His disastrous run in New York ended with a 10-23 record.
Sidelines cleared during a brief melee in the second quarter of Friday's Egg Bowl between No. 7 Ole Miss and rival Mississippi State. Multiple players were whistled for offsetting unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after the Rebels and Bulldogs had to be separated following a sack and strip of Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.
The Bulldogs (5-6, 1-6 SEC) started freshman Kamario Taylor against No. 6 Ole Miss (10-1, 6-1) at Davis Wade Stadium on Nov. 28. It's the first career start for Taylor, the former Noxubee County star. He replaces Blake Shapen, who's started all the other games this season.
But if the Tigers (5½-point underdogs) can pull the upset over Alabama, it would put the No. 7-ranked Rebels (11-1, 7-1) in the SEC title game opposite of Georgia. The Bulldogs came from two scores down in the fourth quarter to hand Ole Miss its only loss of the season, 43-35, on Oct. 18.
All that stands between Texas A&M and the school’s first undefeated regular season since 1994 as well as a trip to the SEC title game is a trip to its hated rival. A&M QB Marcel Reed is also in position to be a Heisman finalist if he has a big game. Can Texas and QB Arch Manning spoil the party?
