A Massachusetts police department is mourning the death of one of its own after an officer was struck and killed while attempting to assist a broken-down driver on a highway.

Law enforcement officials have identified the Uxbridge police officer who died in a crash while helping a driver on an icy highway early Wednesday morning.

New Haven’s police chief abruptly retired following allegations he stole money from a department account, Mayor Justin Elicker said Monday.
