Sambuca, Italy, a hilltop town on the island of Sicily, has placed dozens of homes for sale for €1, or just over a dollar.

Jonathan Smith decided a year ago to move his family abroad. He was fed up with living in the UK, and was concerned about rising crime rates. He dreamt of a simpler, cheaper life somewhere hot.

As of right now, you can buy a house on southern Italy’s beautiful island of Sicily for less than the cost of an espresso.

About an hour's drive from Mussomeli is the town of Sambuca di Sicilia. In 2019, it went viral for auctioning off old homes with bids starting at 1 euro.
