Escambia County officials have spent the past week preparing to help residents stay safe, including measures to sand area roads and help those without a home find shelter. Motorists will need to be cautious of the types of hazardous road conditions brought about by the mix of freezing rain, rain and snow as well.

County offices are closed through Friday, Jan. 24. Escambia County Fire Rescue has responded to several calls for burst pipes due to the cold weather. Residents are reminded to cover pipes and allow outdoor faucets to slowly drip to prevent them from freezing and breaking.
