Huawei has decided to do eschew its Android-based mobile OS and go the route of Apple and Google, which is create its own grassroots operation system called HarmonyOS 5.0, also known as HarmonyOS Next.

Another step toward tech independence for China - on the day Tim Cook came to town Huawei on Wednesday formally launched its homebrewed operating system, HarmonyOS NEXT, marking its official divorce from the Android ecosystem.

Huawei's HarmonyOS Next debuts with enhanced privacy, security, AI integration, and smoothness, featuring a fully self-developed system architecture and native app support.

Users in China can now try out Huawei's independant HarmonyOS NEXT, with a global expansion reportedly in the pipeline
