Gavin Williams of the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday was two outs from throwing the first no-hitter of the 2025 Major League Baseball season, but New York Mets slugger Juan Soto was not in a cooperative mood.

The Mets came close to recording their first hit in the seventh inning, when third baseman Mark Vientos hit a line drive to right field. Unfortunately for Vientos, Guardians right-fielder C.J. Kayfus timed the ball perfectly, making a diving stop to rob him of a base hit.

But Juan Soto spoiled the party. The Mets slugger hit a deep fly ball to center field on a 1-0 fastball that Williams left over the plate. Centerfielder Angel Martinez gave chase and made a play on the ball at the wall. But the ball snuck over his glove and just over the wall for a home run before bouncing back into the field of play.
