SAN MARCOS, Texas - A bat found in a San Marcos neighborhood earlier this week has tested positive for rabies. On Oct. 15, Animal Protection officers received a report that someone had been exposed to a bat in a residential neighborhood.

A bat was collected and tested positive for rabies after it flew into a person’s hair in a residential San Marcos neighborhood Monday evening.

Anyone who comes in contact with a bat should immediately report it to Animal Protection at 512-805-2655 so that the bat can be tested for rabies and medical treatment can be given if needed. Any bats that are found on the ground or in a home or residence should also be reported. A bat should never be touched under any circumstances.
