Mitch Brown, a former defender for the West Coast Eagles, said he kept his sexuality secret during his playing career in part because of a “hyper-masculine” culture in the league.

Mitch Brown is the latest athlete to make queer sports history. A former Aussie Rules football player, Brown, 34, publicly came out Wednesday as bisexual. The 10-year vet is the first player who’s ever come out in Australian Football League history, even during retirement.
