Most of the recent confirmed measles cases in Texas have been in the South Plains region, but this patient was exposed to the disease while traveling overseas.

Austin Public Health and city leaders are calling for preparedness and vaccinations after an outbreak of measles in Texas.

Texas’ health commissioner told lawmakers Monday they are still trying to determine the origin of a South Plains-Panhandle measles outbreak more than a month after the first patients reported symptoms.

The Centers for Disease Control said it's on the ground in Texas as a measles outbreak grows to almost 200 cases. CBS News national reporter Karen Hua reports.

The number of measles cases in Gaines County, the epicenter of the outbreak, has grown to 137, 30 more than the cases reported three days ago.

A total of 159 people have contracted measles in Texas as of Tuesday, according to the state’s health department, marking another increase in an outbreak of the highly contagious virus that was first reported in the state in late January.
