Although he celebrated in this tournament two years ago, playing brilliantly, the American golfer surprised the fans by withdrawing with three remaining holes.

Ordinarily a prestigious event on the PGA Tour’s West Coast swing, the Farmers Insurance Open has been a mess this year. Players have withdrawn in droves, stretching the list of alternates to its breaking point.
