The USWNT will kick off the new year with a camp in Southern California and a new-look strategy aimed at player development
Although there won’t be any games because this camp takes place outside of a FIFA international window, it will give many new names the chance to impress.
Hayes, as promised, will continue to explore the depth of the goalkeeping pool following Alyssa Naeher’s retirement, calling up Angelina Anderson and Claudia Dickey for their first caps. In addition, defenders Nealy Martin, Tara McKeown and Ryan Williams, plus forward Ella Stevens, round out the six new players to the USWNT environment.
This month's training camp will have 26 senior-squad invitees and 24 young prospects in a "futures" group. "This part is just as much fun as it is competing for a major tournament," Hayes says.
L.A.-based teams in the NHL, NBA and NFL have also made schedule adjustments or postponements amid the fires. The NFL moved the wild-card playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings, set for tonight at 8 p.m. ET, from SoFi Stadium to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
Ashley Hatch has been called up to the U.S. women’s national soccer team’s January training camp roster.
