Beloved ABC weatherman Sam Champion recently shocked viewers when he shared he was diagnosed with skin cancer live on air. With the Good Morning America crew by his side, Champion opened up about his journey and the important message he has for people at risk.

On the Friday, October 18, episode of Good Morning America, the beloved weatherman gave viewers an inside look into his skin cancer journey. Champion, 63, explained that he recently went to his doctor for a biopsy on a spot he had under his eye, which unfortunately ended up being cancerous.

Champion said that while the spot appeared small to him, the cancer was big enough underneath that he had to undergo Mohs surgery, a surgical procedure in which thin layers of skin are removed in order to remove the skin cancer while preserving as much tissue as possible,
