Two companies, Firefly Aerospace and ispace, are aiming to make the second and third successful private landings on the moon - and both are launching on the same Falcon 9 rocket

Just after midnight Wednesday, a SpaceX rocket is scheduled to lift off, carrying a pair of lunar landers that will try to touch down on the moon in the coming months. One was built by a Japanese company and the other was built by a Texas company.

Set to embark on an exhilarating journey to the Moon, the Blue Ghost Mission 1 by NASA, SpaceX, and Firefly Aerospace promises to push the boundaries of lunar science with ten innovative instruments.

The upcoming mission, part of part of NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services program, includes the Blue Ghost lunar lander from Firefly Aerospace and the Tenacious lunar rover from the Japanese company ispace.
