A Kirkland, Wash., startup has landed $40 million to grow its business recycling end-of-life used tires into new materials.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, tire-related traffic accidents alone account for almost 11,000 crashes each year, resulting in more than 600 fatalities.
