Rose and Spaun battled through three sudden-death holes before the first leg of the 2025 FedEx Cup Playoffs was settled

Justin Rose birdied four consecutive holes late in the final round and then made two more birdies in sudden death en route to winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Rose rallied to tie J.J. Spaun in regulation — as Tommy Fleetwood faded over the final three holes — and then beat Spaun on the third playoff hole.

This was the third time the St. Jude Championship had reached a playoff in the past four years. Both Spaun and Rose had also fell short in a playoff earlier in the season, with Spaun losing at The Players Championship and Rose losing at the Masters. Both lost to Rory McIlroy in those playoff's
